The foreground granite outcrop gives us a clue, Of the blasting and flattening engineers had to do, To take off the cap of the cliff just beyond, Large enough to sit a lighthouse upon, In September 1900 Pendeen first shone bright, To warn of the Wra and Three Stone Oar at night. £120 Mounted (outside size 60x52cm)
Upright and defiant, despite the Roseland’s erratic weather, Time-worn Scots pines cling to the killas whatever, The evening sea stands settled around Saint Anthony’s Head. The lighthouse a beacon for the Carrick Roads ahead. Mounted £100. (outside size 66x50)
St. Ives is world famous for its rich artists light, But the rooftops fluorescent also sing out at night, Both seagulls and lichen combine to cover slate, In a thick ochre yellow that fills every space, This scene is a winter evening clear and calm, The blackness punctuated by just a few glinting stars. £120 Mounted (outside size 55x49cm)
In that transition between a sun-soaked afternoon and a cool, crisp November evening, Lizard’s lighthouse like an effervescent battery of white shines its light weaving, The building’s complexity – horns, walls, windows, chimneys, rails, cables and gates, Seem to confuse its simple, unremitting purpose - to keep seafarers safe! £120 Mounted (outside size 58x46cm)
Like twin barrels of a shotgun these granite tunnels were built, Shooting sea water into Hayle's channels that scours and de-silts, The importance of impending regeneration, Means restored, new gates in it will be prized in the nation. Prints available £100 Mounted (outside size 70x50cm)
A shrieking offshore gale pulls ribbons of damp mist from the fields, Beyond the cowering, wind-beatten dunes. A fractured beam from the lighthouse, Its turning luminous tunnel in the swirl bestows, A two-second crown; a glistening, golden crest to the inward-marching rollers, Then darkness again. Rowdy seagulls are silenced by the crescendo of waves, wind and stinging spray. Prints available Normal size £120 Mounted (outside size 76x51cm) Larger size £190 Mounted (outside size 91x61cm)
The visible relics of human habitation for over 3000 years, add fascinating layers that intertwine with rugged natural features of the landscape they've come to tame.
In my paintings using inks and watercolours I try to give equal prominence (where I can) to both the marked, moulded and modified tracts made by man and the wierd and wind-blasted countryside and coast so amazingly diverse in this peninsula.
